I joined a fantastic group of veterans at Royal British Legion, Byng House in Southport. There was a group of twenty four veterans staying at the house for two weeks.
We ‘chewed the fat' and had a really good laugh reminiscing over our squaddie days. All with our own stories of bravado and naughtiness. When the funny stories fell away and we discussed the reasons for their stay at the home it soon became clear that these troops were real heroes and deserved every minute of the best respite.
I did a book reading from British Army on the Rampage which brought a few laughs and as a result I managed to sell a few books with half the proceeds going to Byng House.
I spent most of the following day wondering what more I can do as an ex serviceman to offer more help. It matters not if we are veterans or still serving, we must try.......
Byng house receives the usual donations on a regular basis from the Royal British Legion but they MUST then find the additional funds to pay for other overheads to ensure the veterans have the best time possible when they visit and stay.
Saturday 10th May Byng House will be holding their open day. I will be there mixing with the guests and selling my books so please come and support the fantastic work the team at Byng House are providing to this worthwhile cause.
Civilians, serving soldiers, forces personnel, veterans all welcome.
See you all there.
